A new bill is currently awaiting to be presented and voted on by the Full Senate that would make the Michigan Department of Community Health in charge of licensing and conducting annual inspections for local tattoo parlours.
The bill has the backing of the Red Cross, as donors are prohibited from donating blood if they’ve received a tattoos less than 12 months. The Red Cross would waive the restriction if the donor could provide proof that he or she was tattooed at a state-licensed facility.
Improper tattooing practices can lead to such diseases as hepatitis B, tetanus, tuberculosis or HIV.
The bill is a great move as the customers safety should be paramount. The last thing customers need to be stress about is their health months after receiving a tattoo.
